Longest.Day.Ever
Not coincidentally, the first time in my teaching career that I looked at my watch and thought “Good Lord, is this day ever going to end” was also the first day of the LEAP tests.
The tests were bad enough. They kids took them while I monitored. But the directions told me not to move around very much, because it could disturb them, or make them nervous. So much for cleaning out cabinets and stuff. Couldn’t do any work at the desk, either, because we were not allowed to turn our computers on. And since we’re supposed to be monitoring the tests, it’s not like I could read a book. So I pretty much sat on my desk and alternated between looking over the class and staring at my watch.
But the tests only took half the day. For the rest, we were supposed to entertain all the lovely little children. Not have class – that would tax the poor little babies’ minds too much – but entertain them. And keep them quiet. And in their seats. For three and a half hours.
Oh well, I did at least get to play paper football for the first time since I was in middle school. I still rock, as I won 37-21.
