Because College Students Are Such A Responsible Group

Demagoguery, anyone?

College students should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus to protect themselves and others, a Louisiana House of Representatives committee decided Thursday over pleas from campus officials that it would lead to chaos.

I’m generally a second amendment supporter, but I think as a practical matter, this guy is correct:

Cinnamon Salvador, chief of campus police at McNeese State University, said the belief that armed students could have stopped campus shootings is “fantasy.” Their guns “would more likely be used against each other.”

I’d like to know if any law enforcement group in this state would support having guns on a college campus. I’m not saying students would intentionally shoot each other. I’m just saying that if any of the people I knew in college had a gun on them, I would definitely not have felt safer. And I went to a Baptist school.

Still, I’d support the bill if it was amended to allow other kinds of shots in college, too. Really, if they are mature enough to decide when to kill someone, then they’re mature enough to know how to have fun, right? If we can trust them with guns in their hand, then we can trust them to drink responsibly, no?
