My Favorite Story Of The Week

Hilarious:

A Bossier City man was arrested Wednesday on charges of battery on a police officer, resisting a police officer with force or violence, disturbing the peace drunk and disturbing the peace language.

Stephen Corey Dukes, 23, was taken into custody after a Bossier Sheriff’s deputy found him intoxicated while jogging in the 5200 block of Clover, according to a news release from the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“When the deputy attempted to place him in his patrol car, Dukes began cursing the deputy and refused to enter the car,” the news release states. “He pushed, bumped and kicked the deputy, who received cuts during the confrontation.”

JUI, apparently. Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “beer run.” What kind of world do we live in when a man can’t get liquored up and go out for a jog? The terrorists have won.

Seriously, he ought to beat this charge. There’s no law against being drunk in public. You have to be drunk AND a danger to yourself or others. So unless he was jogging in the middle of a busy road, the initial charge is worthless. That means he had a legal right to resist the arrest, to a point. The battery might be beyond that point, depending what happened. Still, even if it was, he ought to plea to something stupid like disorderly conduct, pay a fine, maybe attend some kind of classes, and be done with it.

And finally . . .
