Even Better Than College Football And The Baseball Playoffs

Today was the return of the Supreme Court. Here’s links to summaries of some of the good cases they’ll hear this term.

They kick off tomorrow with a case about the constitutionality of a law banning videos of animal cruelty. Proponents of the law analogize it to laws – which Scotus has upheld – banning child pornography. Opponents say it’s too broad, and could ban everything from hunting and fishing videos to Bear Grylls eating yack eyeballs. The standard is too subjective and would greatly hinder the ability to produce those kinds of clearly legitimate films and shows.

I think this will be an easy win for the First Amendment. The “liberal” justices’ love of free speech will combine with the “conservative” justices’ derision of anything even remotely environmental to strike down this law.
